Throwback Thursday: Winter Review

At the start of this month, I began to review the Lunar Chronicles Series by Marissa Meyer, and today we get to the last book!

Winter by Marissa Meyer

Synopsis

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mark her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters? Fans will not want to miss this thrilling conclusion to Marissa Meyer’s national bestselling Lunar Chronicles series.

Review

I thought that this book was an amazing conclusion to this series, as we get to see all of the characters working together. However I did sometimes feel that the amount of time spent organising big events that have little overall importance on the plot was slightly annoying. However it was nice to spend time exploring the lives of those affected by the major events that the characters are contributing too, as it makes the scale of their actions seem a lot more real.

One should never save cake for later when it can be eaten now.

I think that this book did well to stay clear of the same uprising trope presented in many books at this time (e.g. divergent) but still have people fighting for better lives. I liked how this was both personal and political story but without those motivations, as it took the same actions and gave them a different meaning.

I am a criminal mastermind, I am here to take down this regime.

Overall I think that this is an amazing ending to a brilliant series, and I give it 5 stars.
