Yes I am aware that today is Monday, but I was very busy with exams and didn’t have time to write a post sorry.
Title: Dry
Author: Neal & Jarrod Shusterman
Publication Date: 2nd October 2018
Synopsis
The drought—or the Tap-Out, as everyone calls it—has been going on for a while now. Everyone’s lives have become an endless list of don’ts: don’t water the lawn, don’t fill up your pool, don’t take long showers.
Until the taps run dry.
Suddenly, Alyssa’s quiet suburban street spirals into a warzone of desperation; neighbors and families turned against each other on the hunt for water. And when her parents don’t return and her life—and the life of her brother—is threatened, Alyssa has to make impossible choices if she’s going to survive.
Review
I was very intrigued by this premise, as I am trying to be more environmentally conscious. In the brief snippet that I was able to read, I found it to be highly realistic and a good exploration of what will happen if we don’t change our ways.
While the extract was too short to work out other motivations for the characters, they seemed to have logical steps and well thought out pasts. Everyone at the moment is focused on self-preservation and I think it will be interesting to see what will happen when (if) basic needs are met and other more luxury items are in demand.
Shopping List of Stay on the Shelf?
I will be buying this book as I am intrigued by the premise and loved other books by Neal Shusterman.
