Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Review

I loved this book, the characters are amazing and the plot is well thought out. While I am biased as this is one of my favourite series of all time. Having said that, I haven’t read these for a while so it was nice to read them from relatively fresh eyes.

When reading I noticed that even the minor characters have incredible detail and backstory that is rare to find in works of fiction. They are all complex and have different needs and flaws that reflect real life. It is written in a way that makes you feel that all of the characters have lives that are as deeply interesting as those of our protagonists.

Knowing what is going to happen ahead of time has helped me see how cleverly structured the plot is. Everything important in slipped to the reader so that they don’t notice it but when the big ending comes it all makes sense and scenes that seem important for one reason now take on a whole new meaning.

The themes of revenge, loyalty and justice are well written and are presented in a way which is true to the characters. I will, of course, be reading this again and will recommend it to anyone as it has taught me many things over the years.
